The appliance should be empty, dry, disconnected, and reachable before a hauling crew moves it. If the unit is connected to gas, water, hardwired power, or refrigerant service lines, use the appropriate qualified professional.

Before pickup

  • Remove food, shelves that can slide, detergent, and loose accessories.
  • Defrost freezers early enough for meltwater to drain and the interior to dry.
  • Secure doors only for transport; never leave an unused refrigerator where a child could enter it.
  • Clear the floor around the appliance and measure thresholds and turns.
  • Tell the crew about rust, leaks, sharp edges, or missing doors.

Refrigerant appliances need special handling

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency explains that refrigerants must be recovered in accordance with federal requirements before final disposal. A hauler may use a downstream facility or process that manages that step; do not cut refrigerant lines yourself.

What to send with your request

Include the appliance type, approximate size, whether it is fully disconnected, and a photo of the route. For more than one unit, list each separately. Review the accepted scope on our garage appliance removal page before scheduling.
